Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Dear patients and colleagues:

I am pleased to inform you that I have relocated to South Carolina to join the internationally acclaimed Dialysis Access Institute (DAI) at the Regional Medical Center (RMC) in Orangeburg, S.C. Founded by John Ross, MD, a pioneer in the field of dialysis access, RMC’s DAI is the premier center of its kind.

Here at RMC, I will focus exclusively on my two clinical and academic areas of interest – dialysis access and thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS). Thanks to the enthusiastic support of the leadership and clinical team here at RMC, we are currently in the process of establishing a new center for the diagnosis and treatment of TOS. Patients will be initially evaluated (and followed up) at our outpatient Dialysis Access Institute facility, and operated upon at the Regional Medical Center main operating rooms.

By teaming up with hospitalists, dedicated OR technicians and nurses, pain control specialists and physical therapists, and by taking full advantage of data- and experience-driven protocols to help streamline care, our new TOS center will provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care that is second to none.

While I continue to support the critical value of education, our TOS team will not include residents. I will perform all operations, and our staff will consist of experienced, long-term members of our care team.

Thank you for your interest in our center. See several links in the side bar for further information. Be sure to check back weekly, as we expect our TOS center to be up and running by September!

Karl A. Illig, MD
