About Our Staff

  Dion L. Franga, MD, FACS, RPVI
A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Franga is board certified in general surgery and interventional nephrology and is registered in vascular interpretation-ARDMS. He joined the Regional Medical Center in December 2010. Dr. Franga completed his residency in general surgery at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He received his Doctorate of Medicine degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, summa cum laude, from South Carolina State University. 
  Thomas T. Chow, MD
A board-certified surgeon, Dr. Chow’s professional interests include laparoscopic surgery, breast surgery, surgical oncology and GI endoscopy. He completed his residency in general surgery at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. He received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and received a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from the University of South Carolina Honors College in Columbia.
Mauricio Bassante, MD
A member of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, Dr. Bassante’s professional interests include gastrointestinal surgery, endoscopic surgery and laparoscopic surgery. He completed his residency and internships in general surgery at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. He received his medical degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Del Ecuador in Ecuador. In addition to English, Dr. Bassante is fluent in Spanish, Italian and French.
Sandra M. Chaplin, ACNP
A registered nurse for 25 years, Chaplin’s nursing experience includes community home health, inpatient medical/surgical adult nursing, inpatient pediatric nursing. She also served on the nursing faculty at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College. In 2012, she received her graduate degree as an advanced practice registered nurse specializing in acute care. Upon graduation, she joined RMC’s Hospitalist Program. A founding board member of the Orangeburg-Calhoun Free Medical Clinic, Sandi currently serves as the clinic’s medical director.
