Blood Donations & Transfusion Services

Regional Medical Center Blood Assurance Program (BAP) exists to meet the transfusion needs of RMC patients. Each month BAP requires at least 350 units of blood for emergency surgeries, cancer treatment, joint replacements and other surgical procedures. Blood must be available 24 hours a day, BAP depends on the active participation of community members to meet the needs of patients. Each blood donation can help save up to three lives. Blood can be donated every eight weeks. Most medications are acceptable such as blood pressure and cholesterol medications. Diabetics, who are non-insulin dependent, are also eligible to donate.

There is no substitute for human blood; it cannot be manufactured in a lab. Blood for transfusions MUST come from other people.

The Blood Assurance Program has a donor center located at the hospital and a bloodmobile for scheduled blood drives. All blood collected stays in the community.

BAP Donor Center hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., closed Saturday and Sunday.
