Orangeburg County and Calhoun County Councils Name New Board of Trustees, Additional Position

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – October 1, 2022 – Orangeburg County and Calhoun County councils met this week for the final reading and approval of an ordinance regarding dissolution of the current Regional Medical Center’s Board of Trustees and the appointment of a new, 11-member board.

The newly established Board of Trustees of the Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties is to be composed of five members of Orangeburg County, with one member representing eastern Orangeburg County, one member representing central Orangeburg County, one member representing western Orangeburg County, and two members being from Orangeburg County atlarge, all appointed by Orangeburg County Council; two members of Calhoun County at-large, both appointed by Calhoun County Council; two membersappointed by the legislative delegation; and the chief of staff and chairman of executive committee both appointed to the board by virtue of title.

Board of Trustees of Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties are:

Lucius Craig III, MD – CHAIR, Orangeburg (appointed by virtue of position – Chief of Medical Staff)

Cynthia D. Keller – VICE CHAIR, St. Matthews (appointed by Calhoun County Council)

Franklin C. Coulter, MD, Orangeburg (appointed by Orangeburg County Council)

James L. Gordon, Santee (appointed by Orangeburg County Council)

William R. Johnson, Holly Hill (appointed by Legislative Delegation)

Yvonne G. Johnson, Ed.D., Orangeburg (appointed by Orangeburg County Council)

B. Jeannine Kees, Santee (appointed by Orangeburg County Council)

Daniel A. Mixon, Orangeburg (appointed by Orangeburg County Council)

John H. Samies, MD, Orangeburg (appointed by virtue of position – Medical Staff Executive Committee Chair)

Steve E. Tyson, St. Matthews (appointed by Calhoun County Council)

LaKisha L. Warmack, MSN, RN, Orangeburg (appointed by Legislative Delegation)

Along with naming new board members, county councils established an additional position, Chief of Board Operations, and named Kathy Booker for the role. The Chief of Board Operations will serve as the Secretary of the new board of trustees and the Constituency Advisory Board, coordinate staff and administrative services, and provide education and orientation for board members, and ensuring the efficient functioning of the boards. Ms. Booker will assume her role immediately. Previously, Ms. Booker served as Executive Assistant to the President and CEO and the Board of Trustees of the Regional Medical Center.
