Welcome New President & CEO David Southerland

Orangeburg, S.C. – June 3, 2021 – Regional Medical Center (RMC) is pleased to announce that David M. Southerland, MHA, FACHE has joined RMC as President and CEO.


Southerland brings more than 30 years of health care leadership and management experience to Regional Medical Center. He most recently served as area vice president and chief operating officer in Sonoma County, California at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Petaluma Valley Hospital, and Healdsburg Hospital from 2019 – 2021, and as area vice president and chief operating officer at St. Joseph Hospital in Santa Rosa, California and Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna, California from 2014 – 2019. His experience also includes additional roles as CEO, chief operating officer, senior vice president, area vice president, and vice president for several health systems throughout his career.


A native of South Carolina, Southerland earned a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration (MHA) from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, a Master of Arts in Management from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, and a Bachelor of Science from Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina. He is also a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).


As President and CEO, Southerland will oversee RMC’s 286-bed, acute-care hospital and 24 primary care and specialty practices that deliver health care services to residents in Orangeburg, Calhoun, Bamberg and Barnwell counties.
