Regional Medical Center to Open New Express Care in Orangeburg

On August 3, 2020, Regional Medical Center (RMC) in partnership with Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties is opening its new RMC Express Care facility equipped to provide faster access to care for minor, non-life threatening injuries, and illnesses in adults and pediatrics. The opening of the center comes at a time when express care services are becoming increasingly popular for their low cost and shorter wait times. RMC Express Care’s mission is to provide Orangeburg residents with an affordable and convenient alternative to treat minor emergencies, closer to home.

Located at 3000 St Matthews Road, the 5,130 square-foot facility is being designed to treat conditions such as colds, flu, minor lacerations, sprains and infections. It features nine private treatment rooms, two triage rooms, the latest diagnostic imaging modalities, and laboratory services. Additionally, the center will employ about 17 staff members and at least three medical providers, representing a significant expansion of express care services in the area.

“We are excited to offer this new care option to the Orangeburg and Calhoun communities,” said RMC President and CEO Charles E. Williams, FACHE. “RMC Express Care will contribute to lower wait times in our main emergency department as well as provide faster care to our patients and families seeking minor treatment.”

Approximately 36 percent of RMC’s Emergency Department cases are classified as low level acuity patients. This means a large amount of patients are coming to the emergency department with minor injuries and illnesses that add to wait times in the emergency department. The addition of Express Care will help reduce wait times in the main emergency department as patients now have an alternative to faster care for non-life threatening emergencies.

Express Care will be open 7 days a week with extended hours; Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The center will accommodate walk-ins and offer a free online reservation system called Save Your Spot in which patients can visit, click an icon and be directed to complete the online appointment scheduling. From there, patients will enter their general information, select their visit type, and then choose an available appointment time.

As an added convenience, RMC Occupational Medicine will be housed in the same location. Local businesses can schedule their employees for physicals, screenings, or tests Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Joining RMC Express Care, will be Carinne Thorne, ARNP-DNP, BC, who has transferred from RMC Primary Care – Holly Hill to provide pediatric express care services for children. This will offer faster access for parents that want to bring their children in for school screenings, sports physicals, and minor illness.

“We want to especially thank both Orangeburg and Calhoun county councils for their funding toward this important project. Without their support, we could not have developed this care option for our community. It truly is a win-win for everyone in the community,” said Williams.
