Michelle Edwards Joins RMC as New Chief Information Officer

Regional Medical Center (RMC) is pleased to welcome Michelle Edwards as its new Chief Information Officer. In this role, Edwards will lean on her 20 plus years of experience to focus on implementing technology to enhance clinical care, business operations and consumer experiences aligned with RMC’s strategic goals.

“Michelle has a reputation for being an accomplished leader who uses national best practices to implement robust information infrastructures,” said RMC President and Chief Executive Officer Charles Williams, FACHE. “We are very excited to welcome her to our team. She has a true passion for putting safeguards in place that improve the quality of care, delivery capabilities and patient experiences.”

Most recently, she was Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Palmetto Health in Columbia, S.C. where she was responsible for Information Technology, Health Information Management and Clinical Documentation Specialists. Her experience at Palmetto Health also includes leadership roles as Corporate Director of Clinical Applications, Director of Information Technology for Clinical Services and Manager of Clinical Documentation Systems.

Edwards started her healthcare career as respiratory therapist. She earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. and a master’s in healthcare administration at Strayer University in Columbia, S.C. She is a nationally recognized speaker and is an active member of the Healthcare Information and Management System Society, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives and the Goodwill Industries Midlands/Upstate Board. She has also served as a member of the Cerner Client Council, HIMSS Analytics CIO Advisory Board and the Lexington Richland Alcohol Drug Abuse Council (LRADAC) Healing Families Foundations Board.
