Dr. Franklin Coulter Named Regional Medical Center Trustee of the Year

Regional Medical Center (RMC) Board of Trustees is pleased to announce Dr. Franklin Coulter as Trustee of the Year for his outstanding leadership and service to RMC and the community.

“Dr. Coulter has been an exceptional trustee. We appreciate his commitment to excellence and his strong desire to help the board make important decisions that impact our employees, patients and families. Simply put, he has been a connector of people and ideas. He is a big part of our success and long-term sustainability,” said RMC President and Chief Executive Officer Charles Williams, FACHE.

Dr. Coulter was appointed to RMC’s Board of Trustees in 2016 and has served on the Management Oversite Committee, Executive Committee, Strategic Planning Committee and Quality Care Oversight Committee. In 2017, he served as Chief of the Medical Staff and later in 2019 served as Chairman of the Medical Executive Committee.

“Dr. Coulter has been a positive influence. He has been at the forefront of our board governance, helping to strategically plan and adequately align our physician infrastructure. His care of patients has made him an asset to both Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties,” said William Wilson, Chair, Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees.

Currently, Dr. Coulter is a family medicine physician at the Coulter Clinic in Orangeburg, SC. He has been practicing medicine for 38 years and previously held clinical positions at the Calhoun Convalescent Center, Hope Health Clinic and the South Carolina Academy of Family Physicians.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA and obtained his medical degree from the University of Illinois in Peoria,
