Regional Medical Center (RMC) is pleased to announce that esteemed surgeon John Ross, MD, FACS, is among a group of 83 surgical educators inducted into membership in the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Academy of Master Surgeon Educators™. The Academy’s second induction ceremony occurred on October 4 at the John B. Murphy Memorial auditorium in Chicago.

“I am honored to be associated with such a prestigious academy that continually aims to advance science through teaching, learning, assessment and scholarship,” said Dr. Ross. “This is such an exciting time for me in my career. I have done a great deal of clinical and educational work and this achievement speaks to all the great surgical and educational opportunities that RMC can offer on a broader scale.”

Developed by the ACS Division of Education, the Academy recognizes surgeon educators who have devoted their careers to surgical education. Dr. Ross was selected as member following a stringent peer review. The Academy’s mission is to play a leadership role in advancing the science and practice of education across all surgical specialties, promoting the highest achievements in the lifetimes of surgeons.

Academy membership carries an obligation for commitment to its core goals which are to identify, recognize and recruit innovators and thought leaders committed to advancing lifelong surgical education; translate innovation into actions; offer mentorship to surgeon educators; foster exchange of creative ideas; disseminate advances in surgical education and positively impact the quality of surgical care and patient safety.

“Providing the highest quality of patient care through education and research is paramount to the growth of Regional Medical Center. We are extremely proud of Dr. Ross and continue to support him in his clinical and research ambitions,” said RMC President and Chief Executive Officer Charles Williams, FACHE. “His extensive knowledge and expertise serves as a guiding light to the next generation of surgeons both nationally and right here at home.”

Dr. Ross is the Medical Director of RMC’s Dialysis Access Institute, which is internationally renowned for the treatment of end-stage renal disease patients whose access to the bloodstream needs to be established or has been compromised. Each year, its surgical team completes more than 4,000 dialysis access procedures, most of which are performed on an outpatient basis.
