RMC Offers Free Diabetes Prevention Program

The Regional Medical Center (RMC) will offer a free, intensive diabetes prevention program at the RMC HEALTHPLEX Holly Hill and St. Matthews locations. The first of 16 weekly sessions will meet at HEALTHPLEX – Holly Hill on Monday, January 15 from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., or at HEALTHPLEX – St. Matthews on Tuesdays, January 17 from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.

Following the initial 16 weekly sessions, additional sessions will be held monthly for six months.

“This program is unique because it is based on the National Diabetes Prevention Program. It provides a wealth of professional support materials from DHEC and includes professional meetings with refreshments, guest speakers and most specifically, an individualized on-site exercise program,” said RMC Director of Health and Wellness Tim Maynard, MSS, ACSM, “We are encouraging individuals who are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes to ‘Make a Change for Life.’ This is the best opportunity for anyone with prediabetes to prevent it for life.”

Individuals who are at risk for diabetes, have prediabetes, have had gestational diabetes or borderline diabetes, or have high blood sugar or glucose are encouraged to attend. A physician referral is not required.
