RMC Celebrates National Healthcare Decisions Week with Free Community Forum
The Regional Medical Center (RMC), in partnership with Agapé Hospice, will host a free community forum in recognition of National Healthcare Decisions Week, Thursday, April 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the Orangeburg City Gym at 410 Broughton Street.
“This event will raise some important questions and create discussions for families that could make difficult decisions much easier for them in the future,” said RMC Medical Director of Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care and RMC Ethics Committee Member Alvin Reaves, III, MD, FACP, FAAHPM. “It is incredibly important for family to know ahead of time what care you want to receive when you can’t speak for yourself. That knowledge can relieve physical and emotional pain for both the patient and their family.”
The event will include a video, a panel discussion, refreshments, vendors and door prizes. Panelists include Agapé Hospice CEO Theresa Younis, RN; Staff Attorney for South Carolina Legal Services Taylor Ott, and Dr. Reaves.
National Healthcare Decisions Week exists to inspire, educate, and empower people across the U.S. about the importance of advance healthcare planning. This event will help participants understand the medical, spiritual and legal considerations to advance decisions.
