RMC Auxiliary’s Volunteers and Junior Volunteers

The volunteer services department of RMC was established in 1970 to offer an extra dimension of care and service to patients, their families and visitors, as well as to provide supportive services for the facility’s staff. RMC's Auxiliary, which includes adult and junior volunteers (teens to seniors), represents a large cross section of the community.

Three key factors – interest, skill and motivation – are considered when assigning volunteers to areas of duty. The department’s director relies on these characteristics to help match the talents of each individual volunteer to the needs of our patients, visitors and staff.

Volunteers operate the gift shop and assist in more than 30 departments. Their smiling faces add cheer and warmth as tThey deliver all hospital mail and flowers to patients; greet and assist at the information desks in admitting/registration, emergency department, same-day surgery and the main visitors’ lobby; serve as patient/visitor liaisons in cooperation with the customer service department; offer clerical and secretarial assistance to various departments; provide "Cuddle Care" nursery service; staff the front desk and provide a courier service for the cancer treatment center; and lend a helping hand in many other ways.

Additionally, the Auxiliary sponsors RMC's Summer Enrichment Program, which was designed as an opportunity for students who are pursuing a healthcare career to gain experience in the healthcare setting. A popular, commemorative community event of the holiday season, the Auxiliary’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting, garners funds through the sale of tree lights to benefit the Auxiliary’s Verna Martin Compassionate Care Fund. This fund was designed to help patients and their families with a one-time emergency need.

The Auxiliary has been a major contributor to RMC and the RMC Foundation. Volunteers give of their time, talents and abilities, as well as generous monetary donations in support of RMC.
