 Edisto Regional Health Services (ERHS), an affiliate of the Regional Medical Center (RMC), is pleased to announce that Roland I. Saavedra, M.D. has joined St. Matthews Family Practice in St. Matthews.
“We welcome Dr. Saavedra to St. Matthews Family Practice, the Calhoun County community and the Regional Medical Center family,” said Regional Medical Center President & CEO Tom Dandridge. “Dr. Saavedra will be dedicated to St. Matthews Family Practice full-time, and we look forward to him providing excellent care to patients from the Calhoun County area on a long-term basis.”
“I am excited to live and practice in St. Matthews,” said Dr. Saavedra, “it reminds me of the small town where I grew up in the Midwest, and it’s close to my parents, brother, sister and their families in Summerville and Charleston.”
Dr. Saavedra received his medical degree from Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. He completed his residency in family medicine at University of Massachusetts Medical School at Fitchburg Family Medicine Residency Program. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Loyola University of Chicago.
Dr. Saavedra is a recipient of the John J. Sheinin Research Award from Chicago Medical School; the Chicago Medical School Dean’s Award; and the 2001 Outstanding Service to the Community Award from the Chicago Medical School. He served as a volunteer resident physician at St. Vincent DePaul Free Clinic in Merrill, Wisconsin and at the Medical Outreach Ministry Clinic in Summerville, SC. Dr. Saavedra is fluent in Spanish.
Dr. Saavedra’s family practice office hours will be: Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
