RMC is proud to be an integral part of a community that plays a key role in the medical center’s growth and development. This partnership allows us to offer many programs and specialties designed to improve the health and quality of life for all residents through prevention, education and healing.

    Prevention
Education alone does not always ensure a healthy community. Often intervention is required to help prevent accidents and disease. RMC strives to offer diverse prevention programs to keep local citizens as healthy as possible.

Safe Kids of Orangeburg, Bamberg and Calhoun Counties: Focused on preventing unintentional accidents among children in our community, this program includes car seat safety, bicycle safety, gun safety, poison control and a variety of other child-related safety issues.

School Nurse Program: This program focuses on getting school nurses back into elementary, middle and high schools in an effort to reduce childhood illnesses and improve school attendance through prevention.
Wellness Programs: To help reduce diseases that can possibly be prevented through lifestyle changes, RMC’s wellness department offers health risk assessments, weight management classes, smoking cessation programs, stress reduction and relaxation techniques, an arthritis exercise class, health fairs and a variety of ongoing otherother ongoing programs.

      Education
RMC seeks to educate our community to promote healthy lifestyles and a healthier community.

Camp Catch-A-Breath: This camp, coordinated by RMC’s respiratory care department, teaches children with asthma how to better understand and control asthma while still living a normal, active life.

Speakers’ Bureau: Healthcare professionals are available to speak at various meetings of civic, school, professional and other groups on topics relative to their expertise.

Youth Guidance Programs: RMC commits extensive resources to giving direction to area youths. Through such programs as Medical Explorers, internships, Summer Enrichment and the Junior Volunteers, young people in the community are exposed to a variety of medical professions.

Health Education: RMC offers the community a myriad of health education services including diabetes education, prepared childbirth and sibling classes.

      Healing
Sometimes illnesses and pain are unavoidable. When they do occur, you can turn to RMC for help. We seek to aid community members in the healing process, both physically and emotionally.

HomeCare of RMC: HomeCare of RMC encompasses two home care programs – hospice care and home health services. Some of the services include nursing care, aide services, medical social services, spiritual care, volunteer services, grief counseling, community grief programs, respite care, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.

Support Groups: RMC sponsors many support groups to help those with diseases better deal with the problems associated with their condition. Support groups sponsored by RMC include Diabetes Support Group, Lupus Support Group, “Up Front” Breast Cancer Support Group, Stroke Support Group, Amputee Support Group and Grief Support Groups.

For more information about any of these services, please call RMC’s Regional Choices at (803) 395-4631 or go to the “Contact Us” link at the top of the page.
