History
Originating from a small, private hospital started by Dr. Charles A. Mobley in 1919, the Regional Medical Center (RMC) has grown to a 286-bed, acute-care, regional medical center owned by Orangeburg and Calhoun counties. The product of more than eight decades of work on the part of local physicians, community leaders and citizens, RMC has a strong history of safeguarding the long-term health of this community.
Serving a six-county area, the medical center has a multitude of specialties and programs that offer state-of-the-art health care. RMC is accredited by The Joint Commission and offers a 24-hour emergency department, full range of high-quality medical services and proactive, community-wide wellness program for the Orangeburg area.
The medical center has experienced tremendous growth and stands ready to serve you with the latest advancements in medical technology while continuing to provide compassionate care.
Prenatal and Maternity Care
We realize that children are the future of our community, and we want to make sure they have the best start possible in life. For expectant mothers and their families, RMC’s single-room maternity care unit, Her Place, offers many of the comforts of home while maintaining a superior level of medical care. All maternity rooms are well equipped for labor, delivery, recovery and post-partum care, while maintaining a cozy atmosphere. Prepared childbirth and sibling classes are offered to help guide expectant parents and big brothers and sisters through the joys (and realities) of a new baby.

Family Care
Meeting the needs of today’s fast-paced family is challenging. One of the many ways we meet those needs is with our Same-day Surgery Center. The center houses registration, pre-surgical routine testing, preparation and recovery areas for patients having same-day surgery and those being admitted following surgery. Designed to get patients back to their families, workplace and lifestyle as quickly as possible, the center leads the way in providing surgical procedures for patients in an environment that is comfortable, convenient and accessible.
Equally important to family health care is the ability to meet medical emergency needs. RMC’s emergency department is staffed by highly trained professionals and specialists in emergent care. New fast-track rooms and bedside registration help make a trip to the emergency room less stressful.
Families are important, and through RMC’s pediatric and family services, they can rest assured great health care is just minutes away.
Senior Care
We offer many services to improve the health of our seniors. Whether the need is emergency services, rehabilitation, or compassionate hospice or home health care, RMC provides quality care with sensitivity to our patients and their families.
For patients requiring rehabilitation, RMC offers a full range of inpatient and outpatient, physical, occupational and speech therapy in order to help individuals become as functionally independent as possible.
HomeCare of RMC provides a continuum of home health and hospice services, offering a wide range of at-home, family-centered services to patients and their families to maximize quality of life and independence.

A Healthy Community
As our community continues to grow, RMC is committed to meeting its changing medical needs. We feel an added responsibility to take a proactive approach to keeping our community healthy.
RMC is one of a very few healthcare facilities in South Carolina to maintain an independent blood program. The Blood Assurance Program relies on donations from individuals, businesses and organizations in the community to support our growing blood needs.
Designed to consolidate the outpatient treatment and rehabilitation services for patients with orthopaedic and sports-related injuries, HealthPlex utilizes highly trained professionals and state-of-the-art equipment for a comprehensive outpatient program offering physical therapy, sports medicine, and industry and community wellness and fitness programs.
The Center for Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation is designed to help individuals regain and maintain their maximum quality of life through medically supervised physical conditioning in a supportive environment. Cardiac rehabilitation participants are monitored through one inpatient level and three outpatient levels to build cardiovascular strength and self-confidence. Pulmonary rehabilitation offers an alternative beyond medication. The program combines education, group support and exercise in an eight-week outpatient program.
The Rose Centre, an inpatient, psychiatric unit, provides a complete range of mental health services designed to meet individual needs.
Diabetes education is one of the many tools offered by the Department of Care Planning and Resource Management. Individual and group instruction is available to help diabetics learn to self-manage their health needs.
The Regional Wound Center provides treatment and management of chronic wounds resulting from diabetes, sickle cell anemia and vascular disease. The wound center also provides care and education to patients with ostomies and incontinence.
Continuing to lead the way regionally in the fight against cancer, The H. Filmore Mabry Center For Cancer Care offers quality cancer care close to home. The center consolidates outpatient cancer services, offers chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and emphasizes personal care including educational programs, psychological counseling, and family and patient support groups.
Regional Choices is a healthcare-based referral system that provides assistance to members of the community in locating physicians, community resource classes, support groups and up-to-date information on RMC-sponsored health screenings being held in the area. Call Regional Choices at (803) 395-4631.
RMC meets today’s growing needs with the latest technology and expert staff. This high-tech intensive foundation, coupled with a full complement of educational programs and outreach opportunities, is evidence of RMC’s commitment to improving the community’s health.
Mission Statement
To enhance patient care by continuously improving our performance in corporate culture, customer service and clinical excellence.
Vision Statement
To become the healthcare provider of choice and the employer of choice.
Purpose Statement
To get better every day.
Core Values
Serve the patient first
To raise the level of accountability, we must serve the patient first. We must see everything through the patient’s eyes, and work together to make daily decisions that put patients first.
Share and inform
To communicate more effectively, we must share and inform. In order to better communicate hospital policies, procedures and information throughout the organization, we must share information openly and honestly with each other, as well as make sure the appropriate communication channels are in place to inform each other. To uphold this core value, we must improve our listening skills, consider the possibilities and share the information.
See, hear and believe in each other
To express value among employees, we must see, hear and believe in each other. Everyone who works here has value. We need to make sure we take the time to recognize this in everything we do, from taking the time to greet each other in the halls to respecting each other’s skills and expertise. When we see, hear and believe in each other, we foster an environment of trust.
Respond with your best
To build an environment of trust, we must respond with our best. If we believe in each other and our ability to perform, then people must respond to any challenge with their very best. It will take everyone at RMC to believe in each other and respond with their best, supporting each other and overcoming departmental boundaries along the way.
Reach beyond, pull together
To work effectively as a team, we must reach beyond, pull together. There can be no islands at RMC or in any other hospital. We will all be required to get out of our comfort zones and do more than just get by. Instead, we must work with each other toward the common goal of achieving more for our patients, RMC and ourselves.
